Between the Worlds of Fragrance
For me, Dux Orientis is a fragrance that cannot really be categorized into a specific direction. The opening brings a noticeable fruitiness that is quite quickly joined by other elements. An aquatic facet runs through the composition, possibly due to the interplay of seaweed and ambroxan. This is complemented by woody, spicy, and slightly animalic impressions. Whether I consciously perceive the oud, I cannot say for certain. Perhaps it resonates somewhere in the background without really pushing into the foreground. What occupies my mind a bit, however, is the lack of a clear direction. Does the fragrance want to be aquatic? Animalic? Woody-oriental? Or fruity after all? Somehow a bit of everything is present, but to my nose, it doesn't create a truly coherent overall picture. That said, I by no means want to claim that I dislike Dux Orientis. On the contrary, I find some facets quite appealing, and the combination is interesting. Nevertheless, I miss that certain harmony that turns an unusual composition into a truly outstanding fragrance. An interesting scent with many faces, but for my taste, it wanders a bit too much between worlds.
