Herkunft und Extraktion
Wacholderbeeren werden vom Wacholderstrauch (Juniperus communis) geerntet, der in Europa, Nordamerika und Teilen Asiens heimisch ist. Sie werden üblicherweise durch Wasserdampfdestillation oder Kaltpressung extrahiert, wobei das ätherische Öl aus den reifen, getrockneten Beeren gewonnen wird.
Geschichte und Kultur
Wacholder hat eine lange Geschichte der medizinischen und spirituellen Nutzung. In der traditionellen Medizin wurde er für seine reinigenden und heilenden Eigenschaften verwendet. In vielen europäischen Kulturen glaubte man, dass Wacholder böse Geister abwehrt. Er ist berühmt für seine Verwendung in der Gin-Produktion und war seit Jahrhunderten eine wichtige Heilpflanze.
Chemie und Molekularstruktur
Die primären aktiven Verbindungen in Wacholderbeeren sind Terpene, insbesondere Alpha-Pinen und Beta-Pinen, die zu seinem charakteristischen scharfen und harzigen Aroma beitragen. Weitere Schlüsselkomponenten sind Sabinen, Limonen und verschiedene ätherische Öle, die dem Wacholder sein komplexes Aromaprofil verleihen.
