Beaver Maple Ed.

Kind of disappointing, a bit too sweet (even for a maple version), didn't give me beaver at all, sadly.

The opening is all about maple syrup. But not the kind you pour over pancakes with butter. Imagine walking through an autumn park, the ground covered with a thick carpet of fallen leaves, already beginning to decay. They have this wonderful spicy, sweet-bitter smell, and someone has poured real Canadian maple syrup all over them. Then comes a generous pinch of cardamom, turmeric and freshly ground black pepper. Oh my God, how beautiful is that?! Everything feels slightly damp, spicy and wonderfully autumnal. One of those lovely November days when the sky is partly cloudy, the rain has stopped, and the city is humming somewhere in the distance. There’s this particular spicy-sweet freshness in the air, mixed with the smell of hot, aromatic coffee, perhaps with cinnamon and a little maple syrup. As the fragrance develops, something absolutely delicious appears: a maple pecan plait. Those braided pastries with glazed pecans on top and maple syrup inside. Exactly that. Not pancakes, not a generic vanilla-heavy bakery gourmand. And that bold, peppery note is still there, cutting through the sweetness. The autumn park gradually fades, and suddenly you’re inside a warm, stylish specialty coffee shop with an industrial interior. Cinnamon, vanilla, excellent coffee and the irresistible smell of homemade pastries. Nothing artificially sweet or cloying. The maple pecan plait is clearly the star of the menu. What makes Beaver Maple Edition so special is how beautifully it combines a natural, earthy autumn atmosphere with something distinctly modern and urban. If you love coffee fragrances, warm spices and gourmands but are tired of predictable, overly sweet vanilla compositions, this is absolutely worth trying. A brilliant autumn fragrance, capturing the mood of November almost perfectly. Spicy, cosy, a little edgy and incredibly delicious. I absolutely love it.

For me, Beaver Maple Edition is a thoroughly successful and interesting composition by Zoologist. From the beginning, the fragrance shows a distinct sweetness reminiscent of warm maple syrup. This is joined by a slightly sweet, almost carrot-like facet that lends an unusual character to the whole. As it develops, patchouli, vanilla, and various woods come to the fore more strongly. Through this, the fragrance gains warmth and depth without losing its sweet underlying character. The composition strikes me as very conceptual, but thoroughly coherent in its execution. There is an interesting scent idea behind it that also works olfactorily. Overall, a good fragrance by Zoologist that I enjoyed testing. Whether it deserves a permanent spot in my collection, however, is another question. For that, it is currently lacking that certain something. An interesting scent, but not yet a definite candidate for my shelf.
