As in the novel of the same name by Julien Gracq, this fragrance deals with the tension between fate and chance, nearness and distance, an uncertain future and the legacy of a glorious past - all against the dreamlike backdrop of the North African coast.

The fragrance begins fresh with pineapple and orange notes, while the radiance of tuberose is framed by orange blossom and ylang-ylang. Frankincense darkens the composition slightly, while ambergris, vanilla, and musk in the base hold everything together - like a metaphor for human existence, sometimes tumbling between extremes, sometimes resting firmly within itself, seeking its place in an unpredictable universe.
