Civet is an intense, animalic fragrance note with a strong, musky, and somewhat fecal odor. It has a powerful, penetrating scent that is simultaneously repulsive and attractive, with deep, warm, and sensual undertones. In small, carefully diluted quantities, it adds complexity, depth, and a provocative animalic character to fragrances.

Civet is a natural substance originally obtained from the perineal glands of the civet cat (Viverra civetta), native to Africa and parts of Asia. Traditionally, it was extracted directly from the animal, but modern perfumery now uses synthetic alternatives due to ethical concerns and animal welfare. Synthetic civet is created through complex chemical processes that mimic the original animalic scent profile.
