Herkunft und Extraktion
Lavendel wird hauptsächlich in der Provence, Frankreich, sowie in anderen Mittelmeerregionen wie Spanien, Italien und Bulgarien angebaut. Das ätherische Öl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation der Blütenstände der Lavandula angustifolia-Pflanze gewonnen, die auch als echter Lavendel oder Englischer Lavendel bekannt ist.
Geschichte und Kultur
Lavendel hat eine reiche Geschichte, die bis in die antiken römischen und griechischen Zivilisationen zurückreicht, wo er für Bäder, Kochen und medizinische Zwecke verwendet wurde. Im Mittelalter glaubte man, er schütze vor dem Bösen, und wurde in Liebestränken eingesetzt. Heute wird er in der Aromatherapie wegen seiner beruhigenden Eigenschaften weithin verwendet und ist ein Grundpfeiler der französischen Parfümerie. Berühmte Lavendel-Düfte sind Jicky von Guerlain, Pour Un Homme von Caron und Dior Homme.
Chemie und Molekularstruktur
Der charakteristische Duft von Lavendel stammt aus seiner komplexen ätherischen Ölzusammensetzung, die hauptsächlich Linalool, Linalylacetat, Kampfer und verschiedene Terpene enthält. Diese Verbindungen tragen zu seinem frischen, krautigen und leicht medizinischen Aroma bei. Die Molekularstruktur dieser Komponenten bestimmt das einzigartige Geruchsprofil des Lavendels.
