In the master's calligraphy studio
Chinese Calligraphy by d'Annam is a precise study of mental concentration and materiality. The fragrance opens watery and bright, carried by a floral orchid note that is immediately accompanied by a dry powderiness in the background. This fluid texture does not last long. Within half an hour, the initial wateriness evaporates, giving way to a brittle, slightly metallic lacquer accord. Here, the composition builds its atmospheric density. The sharpness of the lacquer becomes increasingly grounded, taking on the physical texture of black ink. In parallel, the projection noticeably recedes—a circumstance that further honors the contemplative concept. Later on, the structure transforms into a fibrous, rough natural paper accord. The slightly metallic ink rubs against this unbleached paper texture, while the orchid from the opening provides only a faint hint of sweetness as a pale memory. The result is the uncompromising olfactory rendition of a quiet, focused studio. A contemplative fragrance that, despite its abstract notes, never slips into artificial synthetics. Wearable for anyone, especially when applied during quieter hours.
