Jakub Florian Hiermann: Czech Perfumer Redefining Niche Fragrance

From Prague Castle to Parisian Collaborations

Jakub Florian Hiermann's path to perfumery began with childhood memories of his grandmother's luxury perfume collection. This early exposure to iconic fragrances sparked a passion that would eventually lead him to formal training in London, where he spent six years mastering the art of scent creation.
In 2018, Hiermann co-founded Pigmentarium, the Czech Republic's first niche perfume house, alongside Tomáš Ric. As the brand's creative nose, he developed six distinctive fragrances that captured the essence of Czech culture through a contemporary lens. His debut creation, Ad Libitum, drew inspiration from Prague Castle's sunset glow, establishing his signature approach of translating visual and emotional experiences into olfactory art.
Hiermann's creative philosophy centers on creating fragrances that reveal the wearer's character rather than following market trends. His compositions intentionally blur gender boundaries, focusing instead on personal expression and emotional resonance. This approach is evident in Azabache, born from his collaboration with Spanish fashion designer Arturo Obegero, which seamlessly blends feminine florals with masculine woody elements.

Artistic Collaborations and Signature Creations

What sets Hiermann apart is his commitment to interdisciplinary artistic partnerships. His work extends beyond traditional perfumery into collaborations with sculptors, fashion designers, and visual artists. The fragrance Genesis emerged from a dialogue with sculptor Tereza Štětinová, while Azabache captured the imaginative world of a young Spanish creator working in Paris.
His technical mastery shines through in compositions like Ad Libitum, where refreshing bergamot and tangerine give way to elegant jasmine and cedar, settling into a classic chypre base of oakmoss and patchouli. The fragrance demonstrates his ability to create nostalgic yet contemporary compositions that honor perfumery traditions while pushing creative boundaries.
Now operating under his own J. F. Hiermann label, he focuses on bespoke compositions and limited-edition releases. His inaugural fragrance, Amulet, combines spiritual elements like oud and palo santo with traditional fougère structures, showcasing his evolution toward more exclusive, artisanal creations. This shift represents his commitment to quality over quantity, emphasizing rare ingredients and personalized olfactory experiences that reflect his artistic vision and Czech heritage.
