Hüseyin Erdoğmuş: Turkish Master Perfumer Bridging Tradition
From Rose Fields to Global Recognition
Hüseyin Erdoğmuş began his fragrance journey in Isparta, Turkey's rose capital, where the scent of rose oil filled his childhood. This early exposure to aromatic botanicals shaped his destiny as one of Turkey's most respected perfumers.
After graduating from Middle East Technical University with a chemical engineering degree in 1974, Erdoğmuş joined Eyup Sabri Tuncer AS as a perfumer and production director. His initial goal was ambitious: create synthetic rose oil. This technical foundation would prove invaluable throughout his career.
In 1981, Erdoğmuş founded EPS Fragrances, establishing himself as both managing director and master perfumer. His company became a pioneer in Turkish perfumery, introducing the first GC-MS technology to Turkey in 1989 and automated robotic compounding systems in 2004. This blend of traditional Turkish aromatic heritage with cutting-edge technology defines his approach.
Erdoğmuş draws inspiration from Turkey's rich history of aromatic botanicals and artisanal practices. His creative philosophy centers on "Fragrance is Life," emphasizing emotional connections through scent. He works with oriental and woody compositions, often featuring oud, while maintaining a customer-focused creative process that monitors global trends and local preferences.
Masterful Creations and Industry Impact
Erdoğmuş has created over 60 fragrances for prestigious brands including Unique'e Luxury, Kajal Perfumes, and Reinvented. His signature style combines Turkish heritage with modern techniques, producing compositions that are both bold and refined.
Sacred Bond represents his mastery of floriental gourmand compositions. This 2023 creation opens with vibrant raspberry, bergamot, and mandarin, flowing into a lush bouquet of gardenia, rose, and jasmine. The base reveals his expertise with caramel, vanilla, and white musk, creating a creamy, sweet finish that has earned critical acclaim.
His influence extends beyond individual fragrances. EPS Fragrances became Turkey's first fragrance exporter in 1983, opening international markets. Erdoğmuş mentors the next generation, including his daughter Özge Erdoğmuş Altınel, ensuring his knowledge transfers to future perfumers.
Recognition came in 2019 when he received the Süha Atamer Award from his alma mater, honoring his private sector success. His collaborative work on Kajal Äican earned placement in ÇaFleureBon's Top Ten Perfumes of 2024, cementing his reputation as a master craftsman who continues pushing creative boundaries while honoring Turkish perfumery traditions.
