Charlotte Jullien: French Perfumer Crafting Dreams Through Scent

From Pastry Chef's Daughter to Perfume Artist

Charlotte Jullien's path to perfumery began with an unexpected inspiration - her father's work as a pastry chef. This early exposure to the art of creating sensory experiences through careful composition would later influence her approach to fragrance creation. The French perfumer studied at ISIPCA, one of France's most prestigious fragrance schools, where she developed her technical skills and artistic vision.
Now based in Amsterdam after seven years in the Netherlands, Jullien works for Keva and has previously trained with Takasago. Her international experience has shaped her creative perspective, particularly evident in her work with Dutch brand Marie-Stella-Maris. Living among tulip fields and canals directly inspired her creation of Flower Water, showing how she translates environmental experiences into olfactory art.
Jullien's philosophy centers on perfumery as "the art of making people dream and travel." She believes in creating universes through scent, emphasizing that fragrance perception is deeply personal and tied to individual memories. This emotional approach drives her creative process, where she focuses on translating abstract concepts and feelings into tangible olfactory experiences.
Her collaborative spirit shines through partnerships with perfumers like Douglas Morel, Cristian Calabro, and Pierre-Constantin Guéros. These collaborations span multiple brands including Reinvented, Mémoires D'amour, and Trend Perfumes, demonstrating her versatility across different fragrance styles and brand identities.

Signature Creations and Natural Artistry

Jullien's expertise with natural ingredients sets her apart in contemporary perfumery. Her work on Marie-Stella-Maris's Eau de Parfum Naturelle collection showcases fragrances containing 96-99% natural ingredients. She views this constraint as creative fuel, finding innovative combinations to create modern, unique compositions that maintain longevity and complexity.
Lucid Dream, co-created with Cristian Calabro for Reinvented, exemplifies her dreamlike approach to fragrance. The composition opens with bright saffron, sweet raspberry, and juicy plum, creating what she describes as "memory taking form." The heart unfolds with rose, white flowers, and saffron blossom in fluid rhythm, while sandalwood, patchouli, and gentle oud provide grounding warmth.
Her portfolio spans multiple fragrance families, from the floral Flower Water No.20 to the amber-rich Amber Haze No.15 for Marie-Stella-Maris. Each creation reflects her belief in respecting brand DNA while pushing creative boundaries. Her work with Van De Zotte's Wild and Nasamat Najd's Ginger demonstrates her range across different cultural contexts and olfactory traditions.
Jullien's innovative spirit emerged early through projects like "L'invisible du visible" at ISIPCA, where she translated visual emotions from paintings into fragrance accords for visually impaired individuals. This experience reinforced her understanding of scent as a universal language that transcends traditional sensory boundaries.
