Rhinoceros

Rhinoceros makes a strong first impression, dense and forceful enough to suggest much more projection than it actually keeps over time. What surprised me is how quickly that initial power becomes more restrained: the fragrance remains clearly present on skin for many hours, but occupies much less space than I expected from the opening. It feels heavy, textured and assertive without staying constantly loud. Interesting and distinctive, although the overall character does not make me want to wear it regularly.

The opening is strongly animalic, like in the enclosure of a large animal (yet not unpleasant to my nose), paired with whisky, rum, and a certain sweetness. Light smoke increasingly pushes to the foreground, accompanied by woody undertones. The animalic note remains present until the end, but over time, the pleasant sweetness, leather, and dry woods reappear.

Peaty whisky, wormwood and bitter wild herbs. Dust from a country road, dry crushed grasses blowing through the steppe. Creosote: old railway tracks and trains. Raw leather, saddle, riding boots. Buddhist incense, sandalwood, dark woods. Then aged whisky in an oak barrel, a touch of cherry liqueur and chestnut dark honey. Layer upon layer, yet nothing sticks out but everything belongs to the picture. A complete statement. An absolute masterpiece.
