Dessert Cherry Done Right
Cherry fragrances are everywhere, and of course they all get compared to Tom Ford Lost Cherry, one of the fragrances that really set this trend. But for me, Tom Ford Lost Cherry has too much heavy vanilla and tonka and quickly becomes too sweet and cloying. Cherry Punk Extrait caught me with its dessert-like character without ever becoming heavy or overwhelming. Sour cherry jam with black pepper and chocolatey patchouli. There is also something of Lisbon ginjinha here — dark, liqueur-soaked sour cherries — and warm cherry clafoutis. Jasmine adds energy and keeps the tonka from becoming dense and monotonous. Saffron brings a slightly metallic, almost Coca-Cola touch, while violet and mimosa add soft powderiness without anything vintage. It’s not an essential perfume or a masterpiece. It’s simply bright, delicious and very well made. If your perfume wardrobe is missing a great cherry gourmand, you can safely go for it and enjoy. P.S. a warm september evening is the best time for wearing it.
