The story
Strangelove emerged in New York in 2013 from Elizabeth Gaynes' work with sustainable oud and her appreciation for handcrafted quality. After encountering agarwood farms in Borneo, she built a house that makes rare raw materials the starting point for its fragrances.
Together with Creative Director Helena Christensen, Gaynes shapes a collection that translates love, nature, and sensuality into concentrated compositions. Genuine oud sits at its center, joined by materials such as orris butter, red champaca, and gardenia enfleurage.
01 · Origin

From sustainable oud to a New York fragrance house

Elizabeth Gaynes encountered oud while supporting sustainable ingredients and agarwood farms after a journey to Borneo. That experience led to a house built around quality and responsible sourcing. In 2014, she introduced deadofnight at Harrods.

02 · Sourcing

The farm as part of the fragrance story

Strangelove describes its oud sourcing as a direct partnership with sustainable farms in India, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. The origin is more than a label: it connects the depth of oud with a stated commitment to protecting agarwood trees and their ecosystems.

03 · Craft

Rare materials, high concentration

The house works with rare materials such as orris, red champaca, gardenia enfleurage, and sandalwood. The oils are pure perfume, while Strangelove describes its eau de parfums as extraits with at least 25 percent perfume oil. French glass and 24-karat gold-plated caps carry that material focus into the bottles.

What the community says about strangelove

10/10
Strangelove's creations are characterized by a special depth and naturalness. Fallintostars is my personal favorite from the house: an authentic amber scent that is both complex and intense. In addition to the excellent longevity, the drydown is particularly impressive due to its exceptional quality.

The scent reminds me of a golden, incense-filled, sun-drenched cathedral. The fragrance is spicy and warm, rounded off by the apple note.

A diverse, interesting, resinous fragrance. It smells very expensive, has many facets, but is not overpowering. Oud only comes into its own later, appearing more dry-woody-resinous here. Very long-lasting. Unisex. Dreamy!
