The story
Italian perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri founded Orto Parisi in Amsterdam in 2014. Its name and original idea lead back to his grandfather Vincenzo Parisi, whose garden continues to shape the project.
The house treats the human body as a garden and smell as an expression of its inner life. The result is a set of concentrated compositions that are deliberately left partly unexplained. Instead of prescribed note lists, the fragrance itself is meant to speak.
01 · Family history

A garden as the starting point

Alessandro Gualtieri dedicated the project to his grandfather Vincenzo Parisi. The official biography describes a garden fertilised with the contents of his grandfather's buckets, yet remembered by Gualtieri as a place with something boundless in its air. This unvarnished link between body, soil and growth forms the biographical core of the house.
Gualtieri's family roots lead to Apulia, while he built Orto Parisi from his Amsterdam working environment in 2014. A specific memory from southern Italy therefore meets a contemporary and deeply personal practice of perfumery.

02 · Manifesto

The body becomes a garden

In its manifesto, the house describes the body as a garden and its smells as a mirror of the soul. Strong bodily odours are not framed as a disturbance, but as something civilised culture has learned to suppress. This position explains why Orto Parisi allows attraction and repulsion to remain side by side.
Its approach to information follows the same idea. According to the official FAQ, Alessandro Gualtieri does not publish fragrance notes for his creations. The official campaign image for Risvelium shows how the house instead communicates through images, materials and atmosphere.

Those who are inclined towards the concentrated power of the salty sea get more than they could hope for with Megamare by Orto Parisi. The fragrance opens with a tart, slightly algae-like and at the same time spicy-salty intensity. The atmosphere feels almost oppressive, as if the spray of the North Sea were whipping directly into your face during an approaching summer storm. You can literally feel how the air is saturated with the salty aroma of the sea, while a subtle warmth and softness resonate at the same time. The fragrance behaves very linearly and hardly loses any power throughout its entire course. Only in the later drydown do light, almost only hinted at, citrus nuances appear on my skin. Sillage and longevity are just as uncompromising. The latter would almost have to be specified in days. Even after a thorough shower, the scent is still clearly perceptible on the skin. On clothing, especially on natural fabrics, it easily lasts for several!!!! days. Overall, Megamare is an absolute sea monster. Anyone who loves the smell of a summery North Sea storm with subtle citrus accents will hardly be able to forget this fragrance.

Boccanera immediately captivated me with its unique blend of dark sweetness and spicy depth. The fragrance feels mysterious, intense, and at the same time, incredibly elegant. To me, it is something special – full of character, memorable, and full of charisma.

I would say this is the Orto Parisi equivalent of Nudiflorum. Not saying they are the same, though! This one leans more towards citrus, while Nudiflorum is more floral, and they develop in somewhat different ways... but there is still an underlying weirdness and uniqueness to them. There is something familiar in their DNA! I still prefer Nudiflorum, but Risvelium is beautiful.
