The story
Notes de Bas de Paje is a Paris perfume house founded by Alice Gensse and Pierre-Junior Menana. They created the brand in 2023 after meeting while studying law. Their fragrances do not illustrate borrowed novels. They draw on personal moments, relationships, and turning points.
The name plays on the French idea of a footnote and the sound of “page”. For the duo, perfume is a sensory annotation to lived experience. Book-like packaging frames each release, while every composition is made in France as a concentrated Extrait de Parfum.
01 · Two voices

A shared chapter begins

Alice Gensse and Pierre-Junior Menana met in 2020 while preparing for the French bar exam. They realised that their shared strength was not a conventional legal career, but working together. At the end of 2021, they decided to translate their passion for niche perfume into their own house. Alice brings memories of the French Basque Country, while Pierre-Junior brings experiences of Paris and family ties to Cameroon. These perspectives are not used as decoration. They become material for stories that can meet a customer's own memories.

02 · The footnote

Fragrances as page references

On its official manifesto page, the house describes a footnote as a place for details, explanations, and references. That image becomes a working principle: a fragrance should not cover a story, but reveal its undertones. Book-like packaging gives the idea a physical form. Prolégomènes opens with the possibility of a new beginning, Olatua preserves a Basque summer memory, Towédé connects a mother's memory with two worlds, and Carambolage studies shock, memory, and what follows. Each chapter remains open to personal interpretation.

03 · Composition

Four chapters, several perfumers

The house develops fragrances from conceptual briefs and works with several perfumers connected to Flair studio. In the Parfinity catalogue, Amélie Bourgeois, Elia Chiche, Margaux Le Paih-Guérin, and Camille Chemardin are existing linked entities. Collaboration is part of the method: the founders define the memory and the intended feeling, then the idea is translated into a formula and refined. All four creations are officially presented as Extraits de Parfum made in France.
