Vincent Micotti: Swiss Perfumer Bridging Music and Scent

From Concert Hall to Fragrance Lab: A Musical Approach

Vincent Micotti's path to perfumery reads like an artistic symphony. This Swiss perfumer began his career as a concert cellist, earning two Doctor of Musical Arts degrees before discovering his true calling in the world of scent. His musical background profoundly shapes his approach to fragrance creation, drawing direct parallels between musical harmonies and olfactory compositions.
As an autodidact in perfumery, Micotti brings a fresh perspective to the industry. His passion for scents emerged during his teenage years through a family friend in the perfume business, but it wasn't until later that he fully committed to this artistic pursuit. This unique combination of formal musical training and self-taught perfumery skills creates a distinctive creative voice that sets him apart from traditionally trained perfumers.
In 2011, Micotti co-founded YS-UZAC with artistic director Vera S. Yeoh, establishing a platform for his unconventional approach to fragrance creation. The house focuses on individual and distinctive fragrances that challenge traditional perfumery norms. His work extends beyond commercial perfumery into the realm of olfactory art installations and conceptual creations, including collaborations with conductor Teodor Currentzis and scents inspired by Paul Klee's artwork for the Fondation Beyeler.

Signature Creations and Artistic Innovation

Micotti's creative philosophy centers on originality and emotional storytelling through scent. He believes that personal fragrance preferences reflect intimate emotional status and define cultural identity. This philosophy manifests in his work for both YS-UZAC and Pernoire, where he serves as the house perfumer for the Swiss niche brand founded in 2020.
His notable creation Masar exemplifies his approach to meaningful fragrance composition. Named after the Arabic word for "path," this extrait de parfum represents metamorphosis and self-discovery. The fragrance opens with tart yuzu and resinous labdanum, evolving into a warm heart of amber, honey, and tobacco. The base reveals a sophisticated blend of leather, sandalwood, and animalic notes, creating a complex oriental composition that embodies confidence and transformation.
Micotti's innovation extends to proposing new olfactory families, such as the "Minerals" category introduced with YS-UZAC's Silex fragrance. He consistently seeks rare ingredients and unconventional combinations, working with high percentages of natural raw materials. His holistic creative process begins with analyzing needs and target audiences, followed by extensive formula development and testing. This methodical yet artistic approach has resulted in over 40 fragrances across both brands, each telling a unique story while maintaining his signature style of emotional depth and technical excellence.
