Turkish rose from the Isparta region delivers a rich, full-bodied rose experience that feels generous and enveloping. Compared to Bulgarian rose, Turkish rose leans warmer and rounder, with less of the sharp green bite and more of a voluptuous, almost velvety character.

Origin and Extraction
The Isparta region in southwestern Turkey is the world's largest producer of rose oil, with vast fields of Rosa damascena covering the landscape. The volcanic soil and continental climate with hot, dry summers create ideal growing conditions. Turkish rose otto is primarily obtained through steam distillation, and the country's massive production scale makes it the most commercially accessible source of high-quality Damask rose oil worldwide.
History and Culture
Rose cultivation in Isparta began in the late 19th century when Bulgarian immigrants brought Rosa damascena plants to the region. The industry grew rapidly, and today Turkey produces roughly 60% of the world's rose oil. The annual Gul Bayram (Rose Festival) in Isparta celebrates the harvest each June, with locals and visitors alike joining in the traditional picking festivities. Turkish rose water remains a beloved ingredient in the country's cuisine and hospitality traditions.
Chemistry and Molecular Structure
Turkish rose otto shares the core molecular profile of Rosa damascena - citronellol, geraniol, and nerol as primary components - but the Isparta terroir produces slightly higher concentrations of stearoptene (rose wax), giving the oil its characteristically warm, waxy body. This wax content also means Turkish rose otto solidifies more readily at lower temperatures, a quirk that experienced perfumers recognize as a sign of quality and authenticity.
