The story
YLEM is a German fragrance brand based in Hamburg. Its name is a cosmological term for the hypothetical primordial substance from which all matter emerged. That idea of origin provides the brand's conceptual starting point.
Founder Moritz Sülz develops the brand with perfumer Andreas Wilhelm. The first collection translates specific nebulae into three unisex Extraits de Parfum: Eye of God, Soap Bubble, and Eastern Veil.
01 · Origin as a guiding idea

When a cosmological term becomes fragrance

The name YLEM refers to a hypothetical primordial substance in cosmology. The brand uses the term not as scientific proof, but as a poetic frame for fragrances about emergence, light, and change. On its official website, YLEM describes nebulae as the birthplaces of stars and uses their names as the starting point for the collection.

02 · The debut collection

Three nebulae, three distinct textures

Together with Andreas Wilhelm, Moritz Sülz translates three cosmic motifs into wearable compositions. Eye of God takes the Helix Nebula as its starting point for spice, woods, and oud. Soap Bubble develops an airy, transparent idea around aldehydes, fruit, and musk. Eastern Veil combines salty gourmand warmth with iris and soft woods.

One perfumer for the debut collection

The three debut YLEM fragrances credit Andreas Wilhelm on their official product pages. Building the first collection with one perfumer keeps the translation of its cosmic motifs legible as a coherent series. The bottles remain clear and restrained, while the compositions deliberately move in different olfactory directions.

Smoky, woody, resinous, dark, and in contrast, a touch of cotton candy and vanilla. Incredible in the best sense. Great perfume for winter!

Is it "artificial" and "chemical"? Yes, but isn't that the point? It fits with the concept of the brand: building scents inspired by the aesthetic of each nebula. Soap Bubble sweet, aldehydic, airy. You shouldn't expect it doesn't smell "spacey" though, you're not getting that here.

I had imagined the scent to be darker. It has something green and resinous about it. It definitely seems interesting. I can smell hemp in it.
