The story

Profumum Roma was founded in Rome in 1996. Giuseppe, Luciano, Maria and Felice Durante built the house on a family story that leads from Sant’Elena Sannita through the knife-grinding trade into Roman perfumery.

The brand describes its fragrances through a particularly high concentration of essences and a balance of natural and derivative materials. No single material becomes a doctrine. What matters is the interplay of origin, processing and memory.

01 · The prelude

From Sant’Elena to Rome

After the Second World War, Celestino Durante and his wife Luisa left Sant’Elena Sannita for Rome. Celestino first worked as a knife grinder. His rounds took him through barbershops and workshops until the bicycle became a shop, and colognes appeared beside shaving soaps and hair lotions. The later perfumery therefore grew from a trade built on precision, repetition and direct contact with customers.

02 · A house of their own

Four siblings, one shared beginning

The next generation continued the family story. Giuseppe, Luciano, Maria and Felice Durante founded Profumum Roma in 1996. The official account presents the decision as a response to standardisation and a loss of freedom in the perfume market. The defining point is not one individual founder, but the shared hand of the four siblings.

03 · The formulation

Concentration without a fixed number

Profumum Roma does not publish one blanket percentage, but describes a very high proportion of essences. Natural and derivative materials are combined deliberately. The brand also explains why colour can vary between production batches: the origin of essential oils, maceration time and climate can affect the result.
