Dominique Moellhausen: Rising Star of Modern Perfumery
From Milan to Global Recognition: A Multicultural Journey
Dominique Moellhausen represents a new generation of perfumers who blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary vision. Born in Milan in 1992 to a multicultural family, she brings a unique perspective to fragrance creation that reflects her German-Dutch-Paraguayan heritage and extensive travels.
Initially drawn to music and international affairs, Dominique's path to perfumery wasn't predetermined. After studying Business with Languages at Westminster University in London, she discovered her calling through visits to her sister Michelle at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery. This pivotal moment led her to pursue formal training at the prestigious GIP, graduating in 2016.
As R&D Vice Director at the family company Moellhausen S.p.A., Dominique has access to over 3,200 raw materials, giving her an exceptional palette for creation. Her rapid rise in the industry culminated in being named Perfumer of the Year at the Beautyworld Middle East Awards in both 2020 and 2023 - a remarkable achievement for someone in their late twenties.
Her creative philosophy centers on perfumery as "the most abstract form of art." She describes herself as a "life traveller" who translates concepts, stories, and cultural experiences into olfactory expressions. This approach allows her to create fragrances that speak different languages depending on the wearer, triggering personal emotions and memories.
Signature Creations and Artistic Innovation
Dominique's portfolio spans diverse brands from Attar Collection to Rammstein, showcasing her versatility across cultural markets. Her signature style favors soft, tactile compositions that round off sharp edges to achieve smooth olfactory forms. This approach is beautifully demonstrated in Areej, a powdery floral masterpiece that embodies feminine elegance through delicate peony, magnolia, and talcum notes.
Her latest creation, Capella, reveals another facet of her artistry. This fresh green composition combines bergamot, tea leaves, and jasmine with earthy vetiver and warm spices, creating what she calls "nature's vitality" in olfactory form. The fragrance demonstrates her ability to balance invigorating freshness with sophisticated depth.
Dominique's creative process draws inspiration from beauty, travel, nature, and music. She often begins with stories or concepts, translating them into raw materials through what she describes as an intellectual rather than manual approach. Her multicultural background allows her to understand diverse cultural preferences, making her particularly skilled at creating fragrances for international markets.
Her Dominique Signature Collection of five personal fragrances celebrates the freedom of travel and inner liberation, themes that resonate throughout her work. With collaborations spanning European fashion houses and Middle Eastern perfume brands, Dominique continues to build a legacy that bridges traditional perfumery with contemporary innovation.
