The story
Pigmentarium is an independent Prague perfume house founded by Tomáš Ric in 2018. Its first fragrance, Ad Libitum, became the starting point for a brand that describes its compositions as olfactory translations of thoughts and dreams.
Prague is more than a place of origin here. The house works with Czech craftspeople and small family businesses, while collaborations with artists and designers extend each fragrance story into visual and material form. Oratorio opened a new phase in 2023 with French perfumer Théo Belmas, while the early signature of Jakub Florian Hiermann remains present in the range.
01 · Prague as a starting point

A perfume house from the Czech capital

Tomáš Ric founded Pigmentarium in Prague in 2018. The house describes Ad Libitum as its first building block and as an artistic outline for the fragrances that followed. From that idea grew a house that treats Prague as more than a backdrop, translating its architecture, culture and present into fragrance stories.

02 · Art and craft

Fragrance stories become shared projects

Pigmentarium develops the visual language of its fragrances with contemporary creatives. Its collaboration with Paris-based fashion designer Arturo Obegero led to Azabache, whose second chapter draws on memories of northern Spain, a Spanish church and Obegero's neo-noir influenced work. Projects like this show how the house connects perfumery with fashion, photography and design.

03 · A new compositional phase

From Jakub Hiermann to Théo Belmas

The early collection was shaped by Jakub Florian Hiermann. With Oratorio, Pigmentarium introduced French perfumer Théo Belmas as a new creative partner in 2023. The change is not a break with the Prague identity: both signatures work within the house on fragrances that take contrast, memory and materiality seriously.

10/10
Exciting interpretation of black matter. Frankincense and resins. Dry, mineralic. Subtle, clean leather. Verbena brings light.

A fragrance that is simply fun. Grapefruit and rhubarb combine in a fresh zestiness with sufficient acidity, while juniper additionally provides a summer cocktail vibe. The base adds some depth. Quite linear in its development and pleasing.

A great, resinous rose. The scent is rich. Reminds me of 'Rose Noire' by Byredo, although 'Azabache' is more viscous, resinous, and sweeter.
